![]() Beyond the End Times... A
review from "Quest" a publication Do we really need another end-times book? This question is posed by the author and answered on the back cover of his beautifully designed book. "As long as the others fail to recognize that "the end" the Bible proclaims is behind us and not ahead of us is past and not future the answer is a resounding, "Yes!" This book opens with a presentation of a seemingly endless list of doomsday prophets who have failed in their predictions. Even nationally syndicated cartoon strips are listed for a bit of comic relief. Mr. Noē notes that "Christian endsayers always claim the Bible as their authority, and many are reputable church leaders. End-time urgency underscores their final-push pitches. Some think this approach will spur missionary efforts and cause people to run after God . . . in reality, this fear approach has had more of an opposite effect, fostering complacency, ineptness and laziness. It can no longer be claimed that endsaying inspires faith and hope. Rather, it inspires anxiety, paranoia, and surrender." It is this end-preaching attitude in the church that forces Mr. Noē to declare that "Christianity... is in danger of being labeled a false religion." He uses the rest of the book to present Biblical evidence regarding the longevity of planet earth and the imminence of our Lord's statements in the Olivet Discourse which John Noē calls Jesus' most dramatic prophecy. Apocalyptic language and the new heavens and the new earth are discussed in detail. Included in this book is material that was presented by Mr. Noe at the Evangelical Theological Society's 48th Annual Meeting in November 1996 which is entitled Seven Demanding Evidences of Jesus' Timely Return. This information is the needed ammunition to be lobbed onto the most stringent skeptics' court. Perhaps the most alluring chapters relate the author's research on the 70 weeks of Daniel 9. This information alone is worth the price of the book. So all you Danielaholics start writing your checks. Do we really need another end-times book? Absolutely, if it provides us all with the powerful evidence in the case for preterism as outlined by this evangelical scholar. |
