Best Responses Ever

download (12)This past Friday, I presented (read) my seventeenth theological paper at the 59th Annual Midwest Regional Evangelical Theological Society Meeting in Grand Rapids, MI at Grace Bible College.

All of my papers, over the past twenty years, have addressed eschatological reform topics and issues.

But by far, this paper received the best, most positive, and supportive responses ever.

It was titled, “Unraveling the End: A Biblical Synthesis of Four Competing and Conflicting End-time Views.”

In it, I laid out an overview of a synthesis solution to the problems associated with the four major eschatological views in the evangelical Christian church.

I also documented why, and to my knowledge, an approach of this nature, breadth, and depth has never been presented in Church history.

Furthermore, this paper was based on my doctoral dissertation, a 13-week church seminar series, and excerpts from my recent book by the same title.

My audience consisted of both ETS members and also twelve students from Grace Bible College.

During the Q & A session following my reading, many compelling questions were raised, most from the college students, and answered, such as:

  • Isn’t the “come again” and “return” of Christ the same thing?
  • What about the consummation?
  • What is partial preterism?
  • What is R.C. Sproul’s eschatological position?
  • What do you mean by “many different types of comings?”

Based on this best-ever receptivity, I’m convinced more than ever that this synthesis perspective on end-time views – their strengths and weaknesses — is a message that young adults and college and high school students, especially, need to hear, question, and discuss.
