Reactions to . . . ‘Pathetic Presbyterianism – Am I Overly Critical?’

images (15)And you wonder why a lot of intelligent people reject Christianity? This is why. And it crosses all denominations. (Terry)

There you go thinking again…your first mistake. (Jeanne)

Pretty sad. That’s why I won’t step into a catholic church. They have the same readings and beliefs as you posted here. (Manny)Yes John, these have been major concerns for me too, and is a strong reason for my dropping support for these types of EFFORTS (the best word I can come up with to describe them) –regardless of their use the word CHURCH. (Dave)

Maybe I’m missing something, but how can these ORGANIZATIONS go on behaving in ways that are clearly opposed to the message of Christ and the apostles and still be considered God’s instrument to increase and establish His Kingdom/Reign? (Dave)

“Come out from among them and be ye separate” is what I’m practicing. Out of the organization that is, but not out of friendly concern for the people, “for they not know what they do.” (Dave)

Nice….I often have the same sort of thoughts at various times during a church service. I will refuse to sing songs that perpetuate that unworthiness teaching and etc…. great insights. (Charlie)

A DEFENSE from (Sam):

Tidbit 1: “World” or “age” (in Latin and Greek) to come, not “another world” in terms of “another planet.

Tidbit 2: What we mean by that is that there is nothing good in and of ourselves, by ourselves. It is not a denial of the Spirit in us…sheesh.

Tidbit 3: Did he say, “the kingdom has nothing to do with the Gospel”?

Tidbit 4. This simple means what it means in the Bible, “and they were filled” “may you be filled”…often repeated to those already regenerated…the filling of the Spirit is not a one time act….And, asking for this is not a denial of the dwelling of the Spirit.

A DEFENSE from (Ann):

#1 and 2 and 4 don’t bother me. Here’s why. 1) I see meaning God is unchanged. 2) I see meaning there is nothing in me, of myself that I can rely on, which is what sends me to the arms of my Lord. 4) I do this myself. Of course I know the spirit is always with me, but there are also times when the spirit manifests more evidently. And I invite him to come and reveal himself in our midst.

Sounds like church (organized Christianity) to me. That is why man-made is so messed up. (Steve)

Are you overly critical? Yes. . .jk jk Picky Picky. (Bob)

Not overly critical. They are overly full of sh*t. (Daniel)

And yes you might have been a bit critical….  Sometimes it’s hard to pick your battles. You seemed correct in your observations of your visit to church but there are just so many things to deal with…. (Paul)

How tragic not to Preach The Gospel Message As CHRIST has given to us in HOLY BIBLE. (Pastor Ben)

I hear ya. I go through withdrawal every time I listen to futurists too. (David)

Did you fill out a visitor’s card? If they send you something, you ought to reply with these observations and questions. Iron sharpens iron, right? May you have favor if you do this 🙂 (Elissa)

Pray for them (Giles)

Any more….I could care less….!!!  NO big deal. (Ben)

I see some similar discrepancies in my Anglican Church liturgy. I would love to see the creed and liturgies updated to Biblical accuracy. (Jan)

It’s no different in charismatic/ Pentecostal churches. One minute they are talking about the wonders of His grace, then next about how the law is still in force. One minute about the Kingdom being here now, then next about how it will be so wonderful when Jesus comes back and establishes the kingdom. Schizo’s… (Bob)

It seems obvious to me that the indwelling of the Spirit is a myth because none of us can agree on anything. The word is the spirit, the spirit is the word and we are going to have to wrestle with interpreting it. (David)

John, understanding your disappointments, isn’t funny how the Ball is in our court. First, scrutinize God’s Word, then to humbly Love those whom may oppose the TRUTH. Sometimes being too critical counter acts all that we are trying to accomplish. 🙂 (Sandra)

You might manage to crack open a mind or two. You might even start a reformation. Most true believers are not afraid of a challenge and want to grow and answer our own questions too. If they are seeking truth they will find it. We can help spur each other on by challenging where we’re at right now. (Elissa)

John, your kindness is in short supply. The proof that we are right is that we love and not that we lord it over each other like gentiles. (Ken)

So, what do you think?
